Shelter is changing and to help us we set ourselves five change mantras: Shelter will change the country, our enemy is social injustice, we say what we believe, we are all one Shelter, and we only do what meets our purpose. Shelter exists to defend the right to a safe home. We’ve recently spent time as a charity looking at Shelter’s purpose, what were we founded to do and how we deliver against that. That means we’re needed now more than at any other time in our history: for millions of our fellow citizens, the fundamental human need for a safe home is ignored. Shelter was founded 52 years ago, not by the wealthy or the powerful, but as a community organisation whose purpose was to change society. Hi Andy: how would you describe Shelter's purpose and the work you do? Why work for a charity and what's the toughest job in fundraising? In 2011 he spent some time in America studying with Clint ‘Pops’ McLaughlin, one of the leading trumpet teachers in the world which completely transformed his playing and his teaching.Īndy started working with whole class brass teaching in 2012 and has loved it ever since. Currently he is involved in a trio of trumpet, soprano and organ called “Sounds of Splendour” which not only play the baroque repertoire but have been pushing the boundaries with their own versions of artists like Beyoncé.Īndy has always been very keen to learn as much as possible about brass playing and the trumpet in particular.

He has played in almost every genre of music from orchestral to Asian wedding bands. He is very interested in the Baroque period and loves playing the music from this golden age of trumpet. Andy has been involved in many commercial music events, shows and festivals.

He began teaching with Derbyshire Music Partnership and also found himself in a UB40 tribute band touring Europe for 10 years. He then trained at the Birmingham Conservatoire where he won the ‘Alfred Corfield’ trumpet prize in his final year and was awarded a BMus Honours Degree.

Andy is a trumpeter who spent his school days in Uppingham and gained a place with the orchestras and bands in the Leicestershire Arts Music Service, culminating in principal trumpet with the Leicestershire Schools Symphony Orchestra.
